Maximalist interior: colour, materials and boldness, kept in control

Maximalism is not accumulation. It is an interior that dares a dominant colour, materials that answer one another and one spectacular piece per room, held together by a strict rule.

A maximalist interior is recognised by its generosity: walls in bold colour, materials that catch the light, unapologetic patterns and at least one piece that gets people talking. What sets it apart from mere clutter is the discipline that holds it together.

That discipline comes down to three rules. A dominant shade, often a deep one (burgundy, bottle green, midnight blue), repeated across several surfaces. Two or three noble materials in dialogue: glossy lacquer, veined marble, velvet. And a single signature piece per room, around which everything is organised.

The hallmarks of the style

  • A dominant colour

Burgundy, bottle-green or midnight-blue lacquer, on walls, doors or tall units.

  • Heavily veined marbles

Tops, islands or consoles in marble with pronounced veining, in purple, green or black.

  • Velvet and bouclé

For seating: they absorb the light that lacquer reflects.

  • Brass and blown glass

As accents: legs, handles, light fittings, vases.

  • A signature piece

A sculptural chandelier, a mural, a lacquered bookcase: just one per room.

Adapting it to your home

Every piece is drawn to your measurements, made directly by the workshop, then delivered: that is our Design & supply service. To prepare your measurements, follow our layout plan method.

In a small space

Keep the dominant colour on a single plane (a wall, a bookcase, a ceiling) and choose furniture on slim legs to let the floor breathe. A modest signature piece is enough: a pendant light, a console.

On a controlled budget

Concentrate the spend on what is touched and seen up close: the marble top, the velvet seat. Furniture made to your measurements avoids the compromises on size that let an interior down.

In a rented home

Replace paint with lacquered furniture and bold light fittings: they move with you.

Questions about this style

Does maximalism suit a small room?

Yes, provided you concentrate the colour on a single plane and choose furniture made to your measurements, which fills exactly the space available.

How many colours should I use?

A dominant colour, a supporting colour and one metal. Beyond that, the eye no longer knows where to rest.
